20% of America’s 18 million canines are bully breeds, which include over 50 terrier-type dogs. Some of the most well-loved breeds include bulldogs, Rottweilers, Doberman Pinchers, and Great Danes. Their kind nature makes them popular, as they are considered gentle and loving dogs. Notably, the American bully ranks highest on the temperament scale (100%) and is closely followed by the bull terrier, the dogo argentino, and the cane corso.
These dogs, along with several other breeds, are among the most registered dogs in the United States, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC). The French bulldog was the number one most registered dog of 2022, surpassing the Labrador Retriever and ending its 31 year reign in this top spot. Additionally, even more bully breeds help to fill 7 of the top 20 spots in this list.
New bully breeds are still appearing, despite the fact that the original bully breeds appeared in the late 1800s. More recent registrations date back to 2020 for the Dogo Argentino, 2010 for the Cane Corso, and 2008 for the Dogue de Bordeaux. As the holiday season approaches, many pet owners are preparing to share some special Thanksgiving treats with their furry companions. These registrations are appearing all over the world, demonstrating the worldwide popularity of these dogs, despite their reigning popularity in the United States.
